Rohit Sharma created history and etched his name in record books during the IPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 12). Rohit joined Virat Kohli in an exclusive club during his 19-run knock against RCB. Rohit is now one of the two players with more than 6000 runs for an IPL franchise. The right-handed batsman has scored 6013 runs for MI. His tally includes 2 centuries and 40 half-centuries. As for Kohli, he has been playing for RCB since his IPL debut in 2008 and has scored all his runs for them. He has scored 8840 runs in 263 innings.
Rohit Sharma’s MI career
After spending 3 years at Deccan Chargers, Rohit joined MI in the IPL 2011 mega-auction. He scored 372 runs in IPL 2011 and followed up with 433 runs. Rohit replaced Ricky Ponting as MI’s captain during IPL 2013. He did the unthinkable and led MI to their maiden IPL title win. He scored 538 runs in IPL 2013.
Rohit scored 390, 482, 489, 333, 286, 405, 332, 381, 268, 332, 381, 268, 332, 417 and 418 runs in the subsequent seasons. He excelled on the captaincy front and led MI to title wins in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.
MI made the shocking call to sack Rohit as their captain despite him being the national captain. They brought back Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans via trade and handed him over the charge. Rohit has been playing under Pandya since IPL 2024.
Batsmen with most runs for Mumbai Indians
Following Rohit on the list is Suryakumar Yadav, who has 3809 runs in 116 matches. The India T20I captain is nearing the 4000-run mark. Suryakumar returned to MI in the IPL 2018 mega-auction and has been with them since then.
Kieron Pollard finished his IPL career with 3412 runs in 171 innings. The veteran all-rounder only played for MI in the T20 league. Ambati Rayudu scored 3412 runs while Sachin Tendulkar finished his IPL career with 2334 runs for MI. The Master Blaster retired after winning the IPL 2013 trophy.
