Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings share the top spot in the list of teams to win most IPL titles. MI won their maiden IPL title under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in 2013. Rohit took over the leadership role during the season and did wonders on the captaincy front. Rohit-led MI emulated their feat in IPL 2015 and 2017.

Mumbai Indians became the first team to win 4 IPL trophies when they lifted the trophy in 2019. They retained the trophy successfully in IPL 2020 to become the first team to win 5 IPL trophies. MI haven’t won an IPL trophy since then.
Hardik Pandya now leads Mumbai Indians
Hardik Pandya is the current captain of Mumbai Indians. He replaced Rohit Sharma as MI’s captain before IPL 2024. Hardik-led MI haven’t made it to the final yet. Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20 World Cup-winning captains, play under Pandya’s captaincy in IPL.

Chennai Super Kings are five-time IPL Champions. MS Dhoni captained CSK to 5 IPL title wins before stepping down as the captain. Dhoni-led CSK won their maiden IPL title in 2010. They successfully retained their title in 2011. CSK lost the IPL 2012, 2013 and 2015 IPL finals after winning back-to-back titles.

MS Dhoni-led CSK made a memorable return to the T20 league and won the IPL 2018 trophy. They suffered a defeat in the IPL 2019 trophy. CSK lifted their next two IPL titles in 2021 and 2023. Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy before IPL 2024.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is the current captain of Chennai Super Kings. He replaced MS Dhoni before IPL 2024 and has been leading the franchise. Ruturaj-led CSK haven’t qualified for the second round yet. CSK have lost both their matches in IPL 2026 so far.
KKR have won 3 IPL trophies
Kolkata Knight Riders have won 3 IPL trophies so far. They won two IPL titles under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy in 2012 and 2014. Gambhir joined KKR in the IPL 2011 mega-auction and played for them till 2017. He played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2018 before his retirement.

KKR shockingly released Iyer before the IPL 2025 mega-auction and they have been struggling since then. Iyer now leads Punjab Kings while Gambhir is the head coach of Team India.
