MS Dhoni Set To Give Struggling CSK Major Boost, Eyes Comeback At Chepauk But Still Faces Major Hurdle: Report

ms dhoni set to give struggling csk major boost, eyes comeback at chepauk but still faces major hurdle: report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are set to be handed a major boost as MS Dhoni could soon return to the lineup after missing their first three games of the 2206 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to an injury. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side are in need of inspiration after making a nightmare start to their season with three defeats in a row. More than the result, the five-time champions have put up a shambolic display, with all games nearly proving to be one-sided encounters.

CSK lost to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati by eight wickets as the 2008 champions chased down the target with 47 balls to spare. Later, their first home game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) did not go to plan despite them posting a big score of 210 on the board as the Shreyas Iyer-led side chased the target with eight balls to spare. Later, they traveled to Bengaluru, where the defending champions thrashed them by 43 runs in the Southern Derby.

MS Dhoni’s Return Date

As per a report by the Indian Express, Dhoni could feature in CSK’s next game against the Delhi Capitals in Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday (April 11). However, his participation in the important game at Chepauk still faces a major hurdle. The published information claims that the 44-year-old will have to undertake a fitness test, which is likely to take place in the next couple of days. Only if the former skipper manages to pass it will he be able to play against DC.

For those unversed, the Super Kings had revealed on 28th March that Dhoni will miss the first two weeks of the tournament due to a ‘calf strain.’

The season opener against the Royals was the first game that Dhoni missed for the Men in Yellow since 2019. In fact, it marked just the sixth instance of the five-time champions taking the field without him in their history.

CSK is set to get another major boost with talisman batter Dewald Brevis is set to return to the lineup against DC after missing out on the first three games due to a side strain.
