The finest talent in Delhi will get a chance to show their talent to the world as the 2026 season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) will kickstart on Friday (July 31) at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Eight teams will take part in the third edition of the league, with matches set to take place at the same venue with the final scheduled for 30th August.
A total of 57 matches will take place in the Delhi and District Cricket Association. Each team will play each other twice with the top four set to qualify for the playoffs. The knockout stage will have a similar format to the IPL, with the top two set to play qualifier 1 and get two chances of playing the final.
What Did The Captains Say?
The first match will see Central Delhi Kings led by India’s 2022 U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull play against the Purani Delhi 6, who will be captained by former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and current Gujarat Titans (GT) star Anuj Rawat.
“It is an honor to captain Purani Dilli 6. We have assembled a balanced squad with a good mix of experienced and young players. The atmosphere around the league is fantastic, and we are looking forward to playing in front of our home fans. The aim is to play positive cricket and give our best in every match,” said Rawat ahead of the season opener in a pre-season captain’s press conference on Wednesday (July 28), where all captains were present.
“The DPL provides a wonderful platform for Delhi’s cricketers to showcase their talent. We have built a strong unit, and the goal is to play fearless cricket while maintaining consistency throughout the tournament,” said Dhull.
