A community-driven pickleball tournament in Milan, Tennessee, combined sport with social impact as players took to the courts to raise funds for local veterans and student scholarships.
The 2nd annual Mix MLP Pickleball Tournament, organized by the American Legion Post 287 in partnership with Gibson County and the Hub City Picklers, was held at the Milan City Courts on Saturday morning.
The event featured both male and female participants competing across intermediate and advanced divisions, with players of all age groups taking part. Each participant paid an entry fee of $50, contributing to the fundraiser.
Organizers said the turnout matched last year’s participation while attracting increased support.
“This is the typical, I think from last year. We had about 40, we have 40 this year. We’ve got a few more sponsors that have come in and helped raise the funds to put this on,” said Bob Howland.
Beyond competition, the tournament focused on community welfare. The funds raised will go towards supporting local veterans and providing scholarships to students, reinforcing the event’s role beyond sport.
