In the first of two weeks of Revenge, WWE NXT will once again emanate from the Performance Center in Orlando tonight. The evening’s schedule includes a past champion performing live, two of NXT’s top champions defending their gold for the first time, and the ongoing competition to find a new men’s Speed Champion. When Tony D was thrown into an 8-man tag team battle on NXT last week, his new side plates had just begun to settle into the NXT Championship.
In an attempt to demonstrate to the locker room and to themselves that they remain a cohesive team at the top of the NXT hierarchy, DarkState attacked Tony, Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, and Joe Hendry in the ring. General Manager Robert Stone quickly paired the four main eventers from Stand & Deliver against the struggling group. The impromptu team would ultimately prevail, as was to be expected, but what was most notable was how it happened.
Ethan tagged himself in, pump-kicked D’Angelo out of the way, and scored the pinfall for himself when it appeared that the new champion had won. All Ego had indeed prevailed on this particular night, but Tony would get the final laugh by returning to the ring and delivering a vicious chokeslam on Page. Subsequently, it was revealed that this week’s encounter on NXT Revenge will be Ethan’s first opportunity to stop Tony’s NXT Title reign before it has a chance to begin.
