Less than a week after welcoming the public, newly built pickleball courts at a park in Brusly, Louisiana, US, have already fallen victim to vandalism, in an incident that has left local authorities frustrated and the community disheartened.
According to the Brusly Police Department, the damage occurred at Alexander Park, where newly laid pickleball courts and surrounding facilities were targeted by a group of youths riding four-wheelers. The park, which had only recently opened its upgraded amenities, was meant to serve as a fresh recreational space for families and sports enthusiasts.

Police said the vandalism included profanities etched directly onto the pickleball courts, defacing the pristine playing surfaces that had been unveiled just days earlier. In addition to the graffiti, more extensive damage was caused to the park’s new turf fields, where the same group reportedly drove four-wheelers, leaving visible marks and tearing up sections of the surface.
The incident, as reported by WBRZ, has prompted a swift response from authorities. The Brusly Police Department confirmed that surveillance measures have already been stepped up, with new cameras installed at the park and additional units set to be added in the coming days. Law enforcement presence in the area is also being increased, with more officers assigned to patrol the park regularly.
While no further details about the individuals involved have been released, the mention of children being responsible has added a layer of concern for both officials and residents. The episode has sparked conversations around supervision, community responsibility and the importance of preserving shared public spaces.

For many in Brusly, the vandalism is particularly disappointing given the anticipation surrounding the park’s reopening. The addition of pickleball courts had been seen as a sign of the sport’s growing popularity and an effort to provide inclusive recreational opportunities for people of all ages. Instead, what was meant to be a point of pride for the town has quickly turned into a reminder of how fragile such community investments can be.
Authorities are now urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, as efforts continue to both repair the damage and prevent further incidents. As the town works to restore Alexander Park to its intended condition, the hope remains that the space can soon return to being a safe and welcoming hub for recreation rather than a site of avoidable damage.
