Quinton de Kock created history on his second debut for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday (April 16) and set an all-time Indian Premier League (IPL) record. The wicketkeeper-batter made a century with an unbeaten knock of 112 runs in just 60 balls, which included eight boundaries and seven sixes and came at an impressive strike rate of 186.67.
The 33-year-old was signed by MI for ₹1 crore in the 2026 IPL auction and returned to the franchise after five years. He played for them between 2019 and 2021. The South African star played a key role in helping the Mumbai-based win the title in 2019 and 2020 under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

This is the third century of de Kock’s career in the IPL after a ton for Delhi Daredevils against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2016 as well as a century while playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2022 at Navi Mumbai. This makes the opening batter the first designated wicket-keeper batsman to have three centuries in the league’s history.

However, de Kock’s knock went in vain as MI’s total of 195 fell short. PBKS won the game by seven wickets as they completed the chase with ease with 21 balls to spare.
