Rinku Singh put up one of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) greatest individual performances in history to help Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) register their second win of the season. after a dramatic clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in a Super Sunday Classic on April 26. The three-time champions won a roller-coaster clash in the Super Over.
Rinku walked out to bat with his team in big trouble at 31-4 just a ball after the power play ended (6.1 overs). The 28-year-old managed to rebuild the Knight Riders’ innings and scored a half-century in 42 balls. Later, he gave them a strong finish by smashing Digvesh Rathi for four sixes in the 20th over. The KKR vice-captain remained unbeaten and made 83 runs in just 51 balls at a strike rate of 163.51 in a knock that included seven boundaries and five maximums.
Later, he proved his status as one of the best fielders in the world by taking four catches, which led to the dismissals of Aiden Markram, Mukul Choudhary, George Linde, and Himmat Singh.
Rinku Singh Creates History
Rinku etched his name in the history books by becoming the first player in IPL’s history to score over 80 runs in a match and also take four or more catches. This feat has not been achieved by any outfield or wicketkeeper before. In fact, no one even had 70 runs before while taking at least four catches in a match. The record was previously held by Adam Gilchrist. Among non-wicketkeepers, Riyan Parag is on top of the list.

Rinku is also the first cricketer to complete the feat twice in an IPL match. He also took as many catches in the 2022 edition of the tournament in a match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium as he did in the 2021 edition. Previously, no player (even a wicketkeeper) had managed to do so. Overall, there have been 29 instances of a player taking four catches in a match in the IPL, but no one has done it twice before the KKR star.
The 28-year-old is the first player to record four catches in an IPL match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Sachin Tendulkar was the first player in IPL history to record four catches in a match during the 2008 season during the Mumbai Indians’ win over KKR at Eden Gardens.

Rinku Singh: KKR’s Savior
Rinku later also took another catch in the Super Over to ensure Markram’s dismissal after an acrobatic effort from Rovman Powell on the boundary line. He also scored the winning runs in the tiebreaker for the Ajinkya Rahane-led side.
He was also the star of the show in KKR’s first win of the season against Rajasthan Royals (RR) with an unbeaten 34-ball 53 at Eden Gardens. His half-century helped the three-time champions end a winless run of six matches this season by chasing a total of 156 with two balls to spare despite being 85/6 at one stage.
