Pickleball’s rapid growth across Spain is increasingly extending beyond sports clubs and recreational facilities, with companies now beginning to embrace the sport as part of employee wellness and workplace engagement programs.
The latest example comes from UNICA Group, which has opened a dedicated pickleball court at its Agribusiness Center as part of its UNICA Bienestar initiative, a program designed to promote healthy lifestyles and improve employee well-being.
The move reflects a broader trend emerging across Europe, where pickleball is gaining popularity due to its accessibility, social nature and ability to attract participants across different age groups and fitness levels.
As per the report in aenverde.es, to support the launch, UNICA partnered with the Andalusian Tennis Federation, allowing employees to experience one of the world’s fastest-growing racket sports through introductory sessions, coaching and practical demonstrations.
The opening event brought together company staff for a day centered on physical activity, teamwork and healthy recreation, highlighting how pickleball is increasingly being viewed as more than just a competitive sport.
Among those attending were Alberto RodrÃguez Cervantes, President of the Andalusian Tennis Federation and Vice President of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, along with UNICA Director Enrique de los RÃos and Deputy Director Diego Calderón.
Employees participating in the program were introduced to the sport by federation coaches, who explained the basic rules, techniques and tactical concepts of pickleball before allowing attendees to take part in on-court activities.
RodrÃguez Cervantes praised initiatives that help integrate sport into workplace environments.
He highlighted the importance of creating opportunities that encourage health, well-being and social interaction among employees while also recognizing UNICA’s commitment to promoting positive values through sport.
The initiative comes as pickleball continues to experience significant growth throughout Spain. Municipalities, clubs, sports federations and educational institutions have increasingly begun introducing the sport to new audiences as demand for accessible recreational activities rises.
Unlike many traditional racket sports, pickleball can be learned quickly and requires relatively little equipment, making it particularly attractive for community programs and corporate wellness initiatives.
UNICA Deputy Director Diego Calderón said the company remains committed to building a healthy and dynamic workplace culture, with activities such as pickleball helping strengthen internal relationships while encouraging active lifestyles.
As pickleball’s footprint continues to expand across Spain, the sport is increasingly finding a place in schools, community projects and now corporate wellness programs, demonstrating how its appeal extends well beyond traditional sporting environments.
