Indian Cricket Team Sinks To All-Time Low With 125-Run Loss vs England, Achieve Multiple Unprecedented Feats

Indian cricket team hits all-time low with 125-run loss vs England, achieve multiple unprecedented feats

The Indian cricket team hit another low as their tour of the United Kingdom (UK) went from bad to worse as they lost the third T20I of a five-match series to England by a massive margin of 125 runs at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground in Nottingham. The Men in Blue were bowled out for 76 after England posted a huge total of 201 on the board.

India are now 2-0 down and cannot win the series anymore with two matches. Earlier, the first game was washed out due to rain, while the Shreyas Iyer-led side lost the second match by four wickets at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester.

The shocking display in England comes on the back of an embarrassment in Ireland, where the team were whitewashed 2-0. This marked the first instance of India losing a match and later series to Irishmen in any format.

India’s all-time low in England

5 – This is the first instance of India playing five T20Is without registering a victory since their first game in the format in 2006. Previously, they had lost four games in a row twice in 2009 (three matches in the 2009 T20 World Cup and one vs Sri Lanka at Nagpur) and 2021 (two matches vs Sri Lanka in Colombo and one T20 in the 2021 T20 World Cup). They also had a streak of four winless games in 2015 with three defeats (vs Zimbabwe and South Africa) and one abandoned game.

76 – India’s tally of 76 runs is their second lowest all-out total in history and the fewest runs they have made in a run chase. This was only behind a 74 all out against Australia at the MCG in 2008. The previous lowest while batting second was a 79 all out against New Zealand at Nagpur in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

125 – The 125-run defeat marked the first instance of India losing a T20I by more than 100 runs in history. The previous worst loss was an 80-run defeat to New Zealand in Wellington in 2009. Four of India’s worst five heaviest defeats in the shortest format.

This is the lowest all-out team total in England for any team in T20I cricket. The unwanted record was held by Australia for 21 years when they were bowled out for 79 against England at Southampton in 2005 in what was the first-ever T20I played on English soil.

India’s Worst T20I Defeats

Opponent Defeat Margin Venue Year
England 125 nottingham 2026
new zealand 80 Auckland 2009
South Africa 76 Ahmedabad 2026
South Africa 51 Mullanpur 2025
new zealand 50 visakhapatnam 2026

This is also the third-biggest defeat in a T20I on English soil behind South Africa’s 146-run defeat against England at Manchester last year and a 130-run defeat for Scotland against Sri Lanka at the Oval during the 2009 T20 World Cup.

11.4 – India were bowled out for 11.4 overs, which is the earliest they have lost all 10 wickets in a T20I innings by a huge distance. The previous worst was when they were bowled out for 92 in 17.4 overs against South Africa at Cuttack in 2015.

Infact, this is the fourth shortest all-out T20I innings in history behind Bangladesh (76 all out in 9.3 overs vs New Zealand in Auckland in 2021), England (97 all-out in 10.3 overs vs India in Mumbai in 2025), and Ireland (105 all-out in 11 overs vs Afghanistan in Belfast in 2022).

13 – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was India’s highest run-getter with 13 runs. This is the lowest top score for India in a completed T20I innings in a game not shortened due to rain. Never before had no Indian batsman managed to make 20 runs in an innings in a full T20I game. Previously, the lowest top score in an innings for India was 22 by Suresh Raina against South Africa in Cuttack in 2015 when the Men in Blue were bowled out for 92.

5 – India was 54/5 after six overs. This marked the first instance of the Men in Blue losing five wickets in the powerplay of a T20I innings.
