Jos Buttler creates history for England, joins Eoin Morgan in elite list

Jos Buttler created history and etched his name in record books in the first ODI of the three-match series against India. The opening game of the series is taking place in Birmingham. Buttler joined Eoin Morgan in an elite list and became only the second England batsman to play 200 ODIs. He is the first-ever right-handed batsman to achieve the milestone for the Three Lions. Buttler made his ODI debut against Pakistan in 2012. A decade later, he was appointed England’s white-ball captain. England won the 2022 T20 World Cup trophy under his captaincy.

However, they struggled in the 2023 ODI World Cup and crashed out of the league stage. The 2019 World Cup Champions managed three wins and lost six games, with one of the defeats coming against Afghanistan. He left captaincy after the 2025 Champions Trophy. The wicketkeeper-batsman remains a regular in the white-ball team despite not being part of the leadership group.

Buttler had a forgettable outing in his 200th ODI and he departed for just five runs. He has scored 5520 runs in 200 ODIs and 4212 runs in 160 T20Is.
