India’s medal tally in the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG), which is currently set to rise by at least nine through the boxing contingent. While the medals are yet to be officially confirmed with the color set to be decided, six Indians are in the semi-finals of their category, which means they are guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
For those unversed, Ankush Panghal (Men’s 80 KG), Narender (Men’s 90 KG), Jadumani Singh (Men’s 55 kg), Sachin Siwach (Men’s 60 kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (Women’s 51 kg), Preeti Pawar (Women’s 54 kg), Arundhati Choudhary (Women’s 70 KG), Priya Ghanghas (Women’s 60 kg), and Lovlina Borgohain. (Women’s 75 kg) have all booked a spot in the last four, which would be played later this week.
Why Boxers Are Guaranteed Medal On Reaching Semi-Final In CWG 2026?
Boxing has a unique rule in all multi-sport events, which include not just the CWG but also the Olympics and Asian Games. The sport offers two bronze medals. In fact, no match is played for third place, and both losing semi-finalists stand on the podium while the winners play for the gold medal. In the final, the loser is awarded the silver medal.
Boxing is the only sport where a player is assured of a medal after reaching the semi-final in the ongoing CWG. Even Judo awards two bronze medals, but it comes through a repechage system, and the losing semi-finalist has to play another bout to secure a podium place. This is similar to how wrestling awards bronze medals in major events.

This means India has improved their tally from the 2022 edition, where they won seven medals (3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals). The colors of the medal will be decided after the semi-finals and finals. The SFs across categories will take place on Friday (31st July), while all the summit clashes will take place on Saturday (
