Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kept their playoff hopes alive with a win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 60th match of IPL 2026. Courtesy of Finn Allen’s 93 off 35 balls, KKR registered a big total of 247 on the board. The home team restricted Gujarat Titans to 218 to register a 29-run win. Despite KKR’s win over GT, Aakash Chopra questioned his former team. He questioned KKR over their decision to drop Allen in the past couple of matches. He also highlighted that Ajinkya Rahane continues to open the innings despite the below-par results.
“KKR batted incredibly. Finn Allen deserves praise there, and KKR should ask themselves a question. Why did you drop him? Finn Allen has also scored a hundred. He did that later and made a 90-plus score here. You are not dropping the one you should. Why are different rules created?” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“As soon as you lose, you say something needs to be changed, but you are unable to change a few things. For example, Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t scored runs, but he has been continuously opening. Finn Allen wasn’t scoring runs, and you dropped him immediately. The truth is that you have stuck with Ajju as well. If you had stayed with Finn, you don’t know,” he added.
With 321 runs in 9 matches, Allen is KKR’s second-highest run-scorer in the season. He has been dropped for 3 games so far. Rahane has struggled in the season and only managed 251 runs in 12 innings.
KKR need to their next 2 games
Punjab Kings need to register big wins in their next two games and hope that the results of other matches go their way. Just one more defeat will end their IPL season early. They will stay in the race if they win their next two games by big margins. KKR has 5 wins and 10 points in 12 matches.
