The suspense around MS Dhoni continued as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) remained mum on his injury status ahead of the team’s clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (May 5) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The 44-year-old is yet to play a game this season with no clear communication from either the former captain or the franchise around when he will return.
Dhoni has not traveled with the team to Delhi for their 10th match of the season, which confirms that he will miss the fixture against DC too. Ahead of the start of the season, CSK had claimed that the five-time IPL-winning captain would be out of action for two weeks. However, he is yet to play despite it being more than a month since the 2026 IPL started.
While Dhoni has been spotted batting and keeping in the nets, there has been no official word over his match fitness since then. This has led to speculation before the game the five-time champions play in, on whether the legendary cricketer will feature or not.
CSK Camp Remains Mum
On the eve of CSK’s fixture against DC, the team’s bowling coach Erik Simmons addressed the media in the pre-match press conference. However, he claimed a detailed update on Dhoni was above his pay grade and claimed that the player would make the call himself.
“Updates on MS Dhoni is way above my pay grade. He’s not with us (in Delhi), but steadily improving. He’ll be ready when he’s ready, and he knows when he’s ready to play. But he hasn’t traveled yet,” said Simmons.
CSK Play DC In Vital Clash
CSK and DC are sixth and seventh on the table with eight points each on the board. Hence, tomorrow’s clash is a vital one for both teams. The winner of the game will get a major boost in pushing for a place in the top four.
