Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane created unwanted history by becoming the first batter to record the most ducks in Indian Premier League (IPL) history during the KKR vs RR match. Rahane was dismissed for a two-ball duck against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday in the IPL 2026 at the Eden Gardens, continuing his dismal run of play. After a golden duck in KKR’s last game against the Gujarat Titans, it was his second consecutive duck. As an opener in the IPL, Rahane now has the most ducks of any batter in his position with 12.
The only other opener in the competition to record more than ten ducks is Parthiv Patel. Rahane’s 40-ball 67 against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium marked the start of his IPL 2026 campaign. But since then, things have gotten worse; in his seven games thus far, the KKR captain has managed four single-digit scores. In seven games, Rahane has amassed 152 runs at an average of 25.33, including a fifty.
KKR Register First Win Of The Tournament
In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter on Sunday in Kolkata, bowlers Varun Chakravarthy and Kartik of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) stole three wickets each to limit Rajasthan Royals (RR) to an underwhelming 155/9 in their 20 overs. To capture two vital points and maintain their chances of making the playoffs, KKR chased down 156 with the help of Rinku Singh’s 53 not out and his 76-run partnership with Anukul Roy.
Star spinner Varun Chakravarthy picked up 3 wickets in his four-over spell for just 14 runs and was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match award. He played a major role in kicking off the Royals’ batting collapse. He also talked about dealing with the outside noise during KKR’s dismal show and also revealed about having two fractures in his left hand.
“Yeah, it feels great. Before I talk about myself, I think I need to give credit to the entire coaching staff because it has been a last tough weeks of matches and things didn’t go our way and there was too much outside noise and the head coach and the other coaches also, they never let that noise affect us. We were in our own process. So I think we all deserve this win, even though it’s just one win, it feels very sweet. (On the conditions today) Nothing special, it’s just the wickets, how IPL is curating wickets. It was little slow today, suited us,” said Varun Chakaravarthy in the post-match presentation.
“But initially, the first few matches I was injured, I had two fractures. I still have two fractures in my left hand. So I’m just trying to manage that. Yeah, so it is a little tough, but I’m just trying to manage. I would say it was a little slow, but it was perfectly suitable for us and we made the most of it. And I think we could have batted a little better in the middle, but all well. Yeah, we don’t know where we’ll end up, but we are just coming here to win every match. We still have hopes and I think we are going to do well from this.
