Neeraj Chopra will make his comeback to competitive action after spending nine months on the sidelines during the 2026 Doha Diamond League, which will take place on Friday (June 19) at the Suheim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar.
This will mark Neeraj’s first outing in 2026 after a long injury hiatus due to a back issue. The 28-year-old will aim to seal qualification for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled to take place in Glasgow from June 23 to August 2.
While Neeraj has been named in India’s athletics squad, he needs to meet the qualification criteria. The 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medalist needs to secure a throw of at least 82.61m to meet the Athletic Federation of India’s (AFI) criteria.
Neeraj will compete in a tough field with world champion Keshorn Walcott, former world champion Anderson Peterson, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirag, and Jakub Vadlejch.
The venue holds fond memories for Neeraj, as it was here in 2025 that Neeraj managed to cross the 90m for the first and, to date, only time in his career.
