The Indian cricket team have been hit with a major blow ahead of the fourth T20I against England at the Bristol Cricket Ground as star spinner Varun Chakravarthy and ace pacer Harshit Rana have been ruled out of the remaining series as the Men in Blue face a desperate fight to level the series after going 2-0 after three games.
Shreyas Iyer revealed that both players are absent from the lineup due to an injury and have been replaced by Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna. A statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that both have suffered hamstring injuries and have not just been ruled out of this game but also the final game on Saturday (July 11) at Southampton.
“Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy sustained hamstring injuries in the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. The BCCI Medical Team has assessed them and ruled them out of the 4th and 5th T20Is,” said a statement by the BCCI.
Both the KKR teammates only returned from an injury hiatus during the ongoing series. Harshit suffered an injury during a 2026 T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa in February and missed India’s victorious campaign as well as the 2026 IPL.
Meanwhile, Varun suffered a hairline fracture during the IPL for KKR. While he played the entire season despite missing a few games mid-tournament, he was ruled out of the series against Ireland.
Harshit is also part of India’s ODI side, which will play three ODIs against England from July 14 to 19.
Meanwhile, England have made one change as Rehan Ahmed comes in for Liam Dawson.
