Mumbai Indians (MI) are squaring off against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 58th match of IPL 2026. The fixture is taking place in Dharamsala. With Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav absent, Jasprit Bumrah is leading MI for the first time. Rohit Sharma has traveled to Dharamsala but he is not part of the playing XI. Rohit, however, will still be part of the game. He has been included in the list of Impact Players and will come out to bat. He can also come to the field in the last few overs of PBKS’ innings. Rohit has often played as an Impact Player since 2024.
The former MI captain has missed five games in the ongoing season. He suffered a hamstring injury during the first half of the season. Rohit made his return against Lucknow Super Giants on May 4.
Why Hardik and Suryakumar are not playing for MI?
Hardik Pandya is down with back spasms and is missing his fourth game of the season. Suryakumar Yadav was blessed with a baby girl last week and he is in Mumbai with his family.
MI have only managed 3 wins in 11 games and they have already crashed out of the season. He captained MI in three games in Pandya’s absence.
Mumbai Indians opt to bowl first, “We will bowl first. (Reason for bowling first?) We saw the last game a little bit and we feel that, (with) the cold weather coming around, maybe the wicket will settle down a little bit and the ball will come better on the second innings. (How does it feel to captain MI for the first time?) Yeah, it feels good. I came here as a 19-year-old. I didn’t think that I’ll be a Test captain before I’ll captain Mumbai Indians,” Bumrah said at the toss.
