The BCCI has announced the T20I squad for the UK tour. The Indian cricket team will play two T20Is in Ireland, which will be followed by a five-match series against England. T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav was sacked and dropped from the team following an extended lean run. Shreyas Iyer replaced Yadav as the new T20I captain. Iyer hasn’t played a T20I for India since December 2023, but he emerged as a contender to lead India after a terrific run in the IPL, where he led PBKS to the final in 2025, and did reasonably well in IPL 2026.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Included In India Squad
Meanwhile, the selection committee handed a much-deserved call-up to the 15-year-old wonder boy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who left no scope for selectors to leave him out after a terrific run in the IPL, where he won the Orange Cap. Opening with Vaibhav will be the destructive Abhishek Sharma, who scored 563 runs in IPL 2026 and has been one of the top performers for India in T20Is. Sanju Samson has done well as an opener and will be an option at the top, but if India want to play Vaibhav and Abhishek together, Sanju Samson will have to drop to three.
India Squad: Shreyas Iyer (C), Abhishek, Sanju, Ishan, Dube, Tilak (VC), NKR, Axar, Washi, Varun C, Bishnoi, Siraj, Rana, Arshdeep, Prince, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
