Roman Reigns is set to challenge CM Punk in a blockbuster night 2 main event of Wrestlemania 42. The OTC will challenge Punk for the prized World Heavyweight Championship. The title was only introduced after Reigns became a part-timer in 2022. It has now become one of the most sought after titles and for the first time, the World Heavyweight Championship will be defended in the main event of a Wrestlemania. Ahead of the much-awaited championship match, Reigns has possibly spoiled the match result. Speaking to WWE, Reigns hinted that he would leave the company if he loses to the Best in the World superstar.
“If I lose to CM Punk at WrestleMania, I don’t belong in the WWE anymore. I think if I were to lose on Sunday, I’d say my work is done,” he said. Although Reigns’ contract with WWE is set to end after Wrestlemania 42, he isn’t leaving the company.
Reigns is likely to stay with WWE as an in-ring competitor for a few more years before becoming a full-time actor. He is acting in movies and trying to follow The Rock’s footsteps.
The Rock, who made his WWE debut in 1996, quickly climbed the WWE ladder and became the face of the company in a few years. He became a mainstream superstar and started getting movie roles. The Rock left WWE in 2004.
Reigns hasn’t become a mainstream superstar yet. Following The Rock, John Cena made a mark in WWE and became a mainstream superstar now. He became a part-time WWE superstar a decade ago and is now one of the most recognizable actors.
Roman Reigns vs CM Punk story
Reigns teased a Wrestlemania 42 match against Cody Rhodes after the Survivor Series 2025. He won the Royal Rumble 2026, but didn’t pick the American Nightmare as his Wrestlemania opponent. Reigns instead challenged Punk. Randy Orton won the Elimination Chamber match to earn the right to face Cody at Wrestlemania.
Reigns and Punk were involved in many fierce segments on the road to Wrestlemania 42 and now they are all set to lock horns in the main event of Wrestlemania.
