Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) created history after skipper Ishan Kishan lost the toss during their 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (April 21) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first, as both teams look to register their fourth win of the season.
SRH lost the toss for the seventh game in a row and has batted first in all seven games so far. Meanwhile, the Capitals have won the toss in all six games of the season so far. The Delhi-based outfit has bowled first in each match they played in the tournament so far this year.
SRH Creates History
As a result, SRH are the first team in the IPL’s history to bat first in each of their first seven matches in a season. No other team has previously done so even in six games. The record was set by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2016 season. Mumbai Indians (MI) had matches with RCB twice.
Teams To Bat First In Most Games At Start Of Season
| team | Times | Year |
| srh | 7 | 2026 |
| rcb | 5 | 2016 |
| MI | 5 | 2018 |
| MI | 5 | 2021 |
Kishan’s tally of losing seven tosses in a row is an IPL for the longest streak at the start of a player’s captaincy career. The record was previously held by David Miller, who lost the first five tosses. This is now also the longest streak without a winning toss for an SRH captain. Kishan has beaten David Warner’s (5) unwanted record.
Meanwhile, SRH are only the second team in IPL history to lose the toss in their first seven games of a season alongside the Capitals (then known as Delhi Dardevils) in 2014. However, that was split across two captains as Dinesh Karthik led the team in the first two games before Kevin Pietersen returned from injury to take charge of the side from the third match.
SRH’s run of seven tosses lost in a row is the joint-fourth biggest in IPL history. Meanwhile, DC has won eight consecutive tosses (2 in 2025, 6 in 2026), which is the joint-third most by a team. This streak also involves two captains (Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel).
