Ajinkya Rahane-led Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Axar Patel’s Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets in match 51 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), which was being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, on May 8. This was the fourth consecutive victory for the three-time champions, which has kept them alive in the race to the playoffs. However, DC’s derailed campaign has taken a big hit as they can now only reach a maximum of 14 points, which might not assure them a guaranteed spot in the final four.
The current top four were unaffected by the win. However, apart from the table-topping Sunrisers Hyderabad, the other teams have lost their momentum. They too are currently eyeing to bounce back and return to the win column. This is also crucial as the race to the playoffs has intensified with teams like GT, CSK, and KKR trying to take away their spot in the top four.

Finn Allen’s Century Leads KKR To Big Win
The Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Friday, their fourth straight victory. KKR held DC to 145 runs before riding Finn Allen’s century to reach the goal with 34 balls remaining. The three-time champions overtook the Capital City team in the standings thanks to KKR opener Allen’s undefeated 100-run knock off just 47 balls.
Delhi Capitals scored 142 for 8 in 20 overs against the Kolkata Knight Riders, with Pathum Nissanka smashing a fifty and Ashutosh Sharma scoring 39. Nissanka and KL Rahul put together a steady 49-run opening partnership. Nissanka went on to smash his fifty (50 off 29 balls), while Rahul was out for 23. DC lost the plot as soon as the Sri Lankan batter fell. After Delhi was asked to bat first, Ashutosh Sharma’s blazing cameo (39 off 28) gave the team something to fight for.
Allen and Ajinkya Rahane of KKR started the chase with a steady start. However, Mitchell Starc’s leg touched the ball on the way to the non-strikers’ stumps, which was a sad turn of events for Rahane. As DC tried to get into the game, Angkrish Raghuvanshi too had to deal with bad luck when the ball looped over his head off a planned sweep shot and wound up at the stump.
But Cameron Green stood up for Allen, who went on to score his maiden fifty of the season with the Australian all-rounder. With Green remaining unbeaten on 33 off 27 balls and Allen racing through the gears to end the game with a six that put him in triple figures, the pair handled the chase with ease and never appeared to be in trouble.
