IND vs SL T20Is in Limbo: What’s Causing Doubts Over Cyclone Relief Series?

ind vs sl t20is in limbo: what's causing doubts over cyclone relief series?

As part of the existing ICC World Test Championship cycle, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are working to finalize a two-Test series in Sri Lanka later this year. The matches are anticipated to take place in the second half of August. According to a Cricbuzz report, the series is expected to take place between August 15 and August 27, soon after the Lanka Premier League concludes on August 9, though the final schedule is still pending.

According to the report, talks on adding three T20 Internationals to the tour are still going on, but it could be challenging to squeeze them into an already full international schedule. Although a decision has not yet been made, the limited-overs matches were first suggested as charity events for the victims of Cyclone Ditwah last year.

“There was willingness from India to come down at the end of December to play two T20Is to raise funds, but there was simply no time to organize it, especially with no broadcaster available,” Silva said, as quoted by local media.

IND vs SL T20I Series Uncertain

In January, Sri Lanka Cricket head Shammi Silva asserted that the extra T20 Internationals will be part of India’s tour in addition to the Test series that was previously planned. He claimed that as a show of support, the BCCI had previously suggested playing two Twenty20 Internationals in December 2025. However, due to strict deadlines and the lack of a broadcasting agreement, the plan was not able to come to pass.

Despite not being one of the greatest storms in terms of wind speed, Cyclone Ditwah inflicted enormous damage because of its peculiar course across Sri Lanka, exceptional rainfall, and delayed movement. It is thought to be among the greatest natural disasters to hit the nation since the tsunami in 2004.

Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, is currently in Sri Lanka as a member of an ICC mission that is examining changes in Sri Lankan cricket administration.

The visit follows the dissolution of the former SLC structure by the Sri Lankan government and the establishment of the Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee, an interim governing body. One of the main subjects of discussion during Saikia’s discussions with officials may be the anticipated India series.
