With several of India’s leading players collecting medals at the Picklebay Zonals – North, Janith Madhok offered a glimpse into the mindset behind his game, speaking about confidence, competition and the community that continues to draw players to the sport.
The Picklebay Zonals – North witnessed several standout performances as some of India’s leading pickleball players secured gold medals across multiple categories. With the PWR 700 tournament also serving as the senior selection trials for the upcoming Pickleball World Cup, every result carried added significance.
Speaking to Pickleball Now in a light-hearted rapid-fire interview, Madhok revealed the moments that make him feel at his best on court.
“I feel most confident when my forehand drive is going in,” he said.
Asked about his favorite shot, Madhok did not hesitate.
“It has to be the backhand slice.”
While competition keeps him motivated, Madhok believes the people around the sport make it truly special.
“The best part of pickleball is the community.”
He also explained what first drew him to the game.
“I started playing pickleball because I love competition.”
Maintaining his sense of humor, Madhok imagined what his paddle would tell him after a match.
“Try again next time.”
And if he could have a soundtrack after every winning point, the choice was an easy one.
“Waka Waka.”
The quick-fire interaction highlighted the personality behind one of the players competing in one of India’s biggest domestic pickleball tournaments, where the race for medals also carried the added incentive of strengthening World Cup selection hopes.
