paris olympics bronze medalist aman sehrawat wins gold medal at budapest ranking series

Aman Sehrawat created history and won the gold medal at the ongoing Budapest Ranking series (Polyák Imre, Varga János & Kozma István Memorial) of the United World Ranking, which started on Wednesday (July 15) at the BOK Sports Hall. The ace Indian wrestler won the 57 kg freestyle tournament on the first day of the tournament with a flawless run.

Aman defeated the Georgian wrestler Robert Dingashvili in the final by a 13-3 margin. This marked the first gold of the season for the 22-year-old. He previously won the silver medal this year at the Senior Asian Championship and the Zagreb Open.

Before the final, the Paris Olympics bronze medalist thrashed European champion Islam Bazarganov of Azerbaijan by a thumping margin of 11-0. Earlier, he defeated Meirambek Kartbay of Kazakhstan 10-3 in the quarter-finals. He started the competition with a comprehensive 10-0 margin in the Round of 16 by Georgia’s Nikoloz Botchorishvili.

Another Indian, Rahul, was part of the 57 KG category but was defeated in the quarter-finals by Bazarganov.

Aman’s Strong Comeback Ahead Of Asian Games

The victory puts Aman back on track just months before the 2026 Asian Games, where he will be a top contender for India to win a gold medal. The continental event will take place in Japan’s Aichi–Nagoya from 19 September to 4 October.

Aman has bounced back strongly after a setback at last year’s World Championships in Zagreb, where he failed to make the weight. This led to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) imposing a one-year ban on him, which was later revoked a month later following the submission of an apology letter.
