Yashasvi Jaiswal shone in the third ODI of the series against Afghanistan and slammed a century to propel India to a win. The left-handed batsman remained unbeaten on 110 off just 86 balls as India completed the chase of 219 in only 28.4 overs. Jaiswal, who made his return to the playing XI in the second game, was dismissed for 4. He returned to form in the chase and now has 2 centuries in only six ODIs he has played. Despite Jaiswal’s century, Aakash Chopra made a huge comment on his future and he thinks that the left-handed batter isn’t in the scheme of things.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal is getting so few opportunities that you feel he is not part of the scheme of things. He comes as a replacement plan. He comes as a backup option, but whenever he comes, he says he plays very well and deserves a place here,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“There is pressure. You become a part of the Indian team at this level after six months, and one doesn’t know whether he will play in the next six months or not. He will be seen playing in Tests, that is true, but he is not part of ODI and T20 cricket. He became a part of this team only because Virat Kohli got injured. He got a chance to play in the second match because Nitish Kumar Reddy got injured,” he added.
Jaiswal remained on the bench in the home ODI series against New Zealand despite scoring a century in the last ODI of the series against South Africa. He was dropped from the squad for the Afghanistan series. He was only recalled after an injury to Virat Kohli. Jaiswal capitalized on the opportunity and slammed a century in a winning cause. He now has 2 centuries in only six innings.
Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped for England ODIs
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped from the ODI squad for the England series as Kohli made his return. The former Indian captain will join the team if he clears the fitness test. Jaiswal is only part of the Test team now. He hasn’t played a T20I since 2024.
