Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been the talk of the town since his senior cricket debut and he has proven himself in every tournament he has played. After scoring runs for Bihar, he also appeared for Rajasthan Royals and won the Orange Cap in IPL 2026. In his last World Cup match for India U19, Sooryavanshi played a 175-run knock. He was struggling for big knocks in his maiden India A series. He returned to form in the final and slammed 94 off just 29 balls. The 15-year-old missed out on scoring a well-deserved century by just six runs.
Sooryavanshi will not have a long break from the game and he will make his on-field return soon. He was named in the T20I squad for the series against Ireland and England. There are very high chances of Sooryavanshi being handed his maiden T20I cap in Ireland.
The two India-Ireland T20Is are scheduled to be played on June 26 and 28 in Belfast. Sooryavanshi is likely to make his next match on June 26 itself.
After the Ireland series, the Men in Blue will land in England for 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs. Sooryavanshi will, of course, retain his spot in the playing XI against England if he performs against Ireland.
The 5 T20Is are scheduled to be played on July 1, 4, 7, 9 and 11 in Chester-le-Street, Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton, respectively. The three ODIs will be played on July 14, 16 and 19. Sooryavanshi wasn’t named in the ODI squad.
Shreyas Iyer to return in T20Is
Shreyas Iyer will make his return to the T20I team as the captain. He hasn’t played a T20I since December 2023. The selectors made the bold call to sack Suryakumar Yadav from captaincy and they also dropped him from the squad. He captained India to a title win in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Iyer has been rewarded for his purple patch as the captain in IPL. Under him, Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024 trophy while Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals made it to the final in 2025, and 2020, respectively.
