CWG 2026: Game Of Thrones’ Dragon Takes Flight Over Glasgow – WATCH

cwg 2026: game of thrones' dragon takes flight over glasgow - watch

Glasgow residents were left surprised after witnessing a giant dragon flying over the beautiful city. The video also went viral on social media, leaving many awestruck. The mystery around the flying dragon was solved after it was confirmed that the dragon was part of the special promotional event for the third season of HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’, and to celebrate the return of the Commonwealth Games after 12 years.

The dragon was an exact 3D model of Syrax, the dragon ridden by Rhaenyra Targaryen (played by Emma D’Arcy) in the blockbuster fantasy series. The model was built by German aeronautics company Airstage. It had an eight-metre wingspan and weighed 13kg. Its features had 23 moving parts, including moving wings and tail that made it look like a real dragon. The dragon was also seen in London before being brought to Glasgow.

CWG 2026 – All You Need To Know

The CWG 2026 will be the tournament’s smallest version since 1994 as several sports, including badminton, cricket, hockey, squash, table tennis, triathlon, wrestling, beach volleyball and rugby sevens, are not part of the event. The CWG 2026 was set to be hosted by Australia, but the country pulled out three years before the event. Scotland stepped in, but it said that hosting a full-scale event won’t be possible in such a short time.

Meanwhile, nearly 3000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations will compete across 10 bodied and six para sports. The 10 able-bodied competitions are athletics, boxing, weightlifting, judo, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, bowls, swimming, 3×3 basketball and netball.

What Are India’s Medal Prospects?

India has sent a 125-member contingent to Glasgow. The country finished fourth in Birmingham, winning 61 medals, including 22 golds. However, with many medal prospect sports being wiped out, the number is likely to see a dip. Out of the 61 medals the country won in 2022, 30 came from the sports which are not included in CWG 2026. But there are still some strong medal contenders in the event, including Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, Tejaswin Shankar, among others.
