Back in Team India after two years, Mayank Yadav made a memorable return and scalped a wicket on the very first ball he bowled in the first T20I of the series against Zimbabwe. The right-arm pacer found an edge off Brian Bennett’s bat. Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan was confident that there was an edge and he forced the captain to review it. Mayank followed up with another wicket of Dion Myers in his third over. Mayank, who has spent plenty of time on the sidelines due to different injuries, is now fit and raring to cement his spot in the T20I squad.
Despite his success in the opening T20I, Mayank is not a confirmed selection in the playing XI and could be rested for the second T20I. Ahead of the fixture, here we have a look at India’s playing XI for the second game –
openers
No change is expected here and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will continue to open the innings with Abhishek Sharma. The 15-year-old slammed the maiden half-century of his career and scored 50 off 19 balls in the series opener.
middle-order
Ishan Kishan will come out at number 3 and will be followed by Shreyas Iyer. Tilak Varma will continue to perform the finisher’s role along with Rinku Singh. Rinku, who made his return to the T20I team, didn’t get a chance to bat in the series opener.
All-rounder
Shivam Dube will be the only all-rounder in the team. He bowled four overs in the first game and went for 32 runs. Shivam didn’t get a chance to bat.
Bowlers
Mayank Yadav could be rested for the second T20I. Since India are scheduled to play back-to-back games, it is highly unlikely that Mayank will play on two consecutive days. He could be given a rest for the second of third T20I. Yash Thakur can be handed his debut if Mayank is rested.
