Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Pakistan will be going one-on-one against Jos Inglis’ Australia in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Tuesday. The Men in Green are coming into this contest after picking up a convincing victory in the series opener and with a 1-0 lead. 21-year-old left-arm spinner Arafat Minhas, who delivered a sensational spell of 5/32 on his ODI debut, was the standout performer for the hosts. He became the first Pakistan bowler to take a fiver on his ODI debut. His efforts played a major role in restricting the Aussies to a low score.
Australia, who were batting first on a dry surface that was giving assistance to the spinner, were bowled out for a paltry score of 200 in 44.1 overs. Then Pakistan chased down the target comfortably, reaching 202/5 in just 42.3 overs.
Former captain Babar Azam played the anchor during the chase with his composed knock. He scored 69 runs off 94 deliveries, while wicketkeeper-batter Ghazi Ghori contributed with his 65 runs. This was also his maiden ODI half-century. They together stitched a crucial 127-run partnership that kept Pakistan cruising throughout the chase. Minhas contributed with the bat as well, going undefeated on 18 from 17 balls to cap off an amazing start. He completed Pakistan’s triumph in style by hammering Marnus Labuschagne for a straight six.
