The Ultimate Fighting Championship was live from Las Vegas with star-studded UFC 329 PPV at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday, July 11 and July 12 as per IST. The main event featured the long-awaited comeback of the first UFC double champion Conor McGregor, who was making his return after a hiatus of five years. He took on former featherweight and BMF champion Max Holloway in a rematch. Their first fight which was a Featherweight bout happened 13 years ago, when both of the fighters were new in the promotion.
Fans were really excited for the ‘Return of Mac’ but unfortunately, the main event fell short of expectations following a thrilling evening of fights and finishes.
Conor McGregor Injuries His Leg Again On Return
Five years ago, Conor McGregor suffered a horrific leg fracture during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier. He suffered a tibial/fibular fracture in his left leg. However, he stepped inside the octagon once again but shortly after the first round began, McGregor seemed to blow out his knee while attempting a leaping leg kick. Referee Mike Beltran called off the fight after McGregor kept slipping and falling around the cage.
McGregor wanted to make an early and aggressive impact and started with a leaping lead kick. However, the former two-division champion landed awkwardly on his right knee, which clearly bent under his weight. McGregor tried a second strike a few moments later, refusing to give up, but he visibly collapsed onto the canvas.
Taking advantage of the unexpected opening, Holloway closed the distance and unleashed a series of big right hands while standing over his weakened opponent. When it became apparent that McGregor could no longer stand, the seasoned featherweight showed great sportsmanship by briefly backing away and clearly turning to face the official.
