Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fell to a defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 27th game of the IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad by 10 runs. This was their first death after two back-to-back wins in the tournament, which many hoped would be the start of a turnaround after a poor start. This win would definitely halt the Yellow Army’s momentum. However, they still have quite a good chance of qualifying for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
How CSK Can Still Qualify For IPL 2026 Playoffs
Chennai Super Kings have got four points from five games, having lost three and won two. To qualify for the top four of the IPL, the magic points tally has always been 16. Hence, to get to a safe position, CSK need 12 more points to reach that tally.
Hence, with 8 games remaining in the competition, CSK needs 6 wins. This means that they can only afford two more losses to qualify for the final four stage of the tournament. CSK wil next be seen in action in a blockbuster match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 23.
SRH, on the other hand, have sealed their second consecutive win, and their third win overall this season. They are now at 6 points from 6 games. Hence, to qualify for the playoffs, SRH need to win five of their remaining games.
Eshan Malinga Three-Fer Guides SRH To 10-Run Win Vs CSK
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were put into bat first after they lost the toss, and managed to score 194/9 after 20 overs.
They got off to a fantastic start, as they slammed 75 runs in the power play. However, at the end of the power play, they lost two wickets in quick succession in the form of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan, who scored a duck.
Abhishek Sharma scored yet another half-century off 15 balls. He ultimately went on to score 55. However, SRH continued losing wickets at one end of the pitch. Heinrich Klaasen stood his ground as he brought up his third half-century of the tournament, before departing with a score of 59. However, the flurry of wickets continued, as CSK restricted SRH to 194, when at one point of time, they looked poised for a total well above 230.
Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj were the stars with the ball for CSK, taking three wickets each.
Chennai Super Kings, despite the early wicket of Sanju Samson, got off to a great start with Ayush Mhatre and Matthew Short scoring big in the powerplay. However, after that, their run rate slowly dwindled down, as the SRH bowlers kept their discipline intact and stemmed the flow of runs.
Eshan Malinga was the star of the show with the ball for SRH, as he picked up three wickets for 29 runs. Nitish Reddy also shone with 2 wickets. Sakib Hussain, Shuvang Kumar and Praful Hing also picked up 1 wicket apiece.
Hence, SRH won the game by a margin of 10 runs, thus sealing their third win of the competition.
