Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) kept their playoff hopes alive following a 29-run win against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 60th match of IPL 2026. With 5 wins and 11 points, KKR now sit in the seventh position in the points table. They can fetch a maximum of 15 points. KKR have to win their next two games by big margins and then hope that the results of other matches go their way to qualify for the playoffs. It’s confirmed that they won’t finish in the top two.
GT, meanwhile, missed out on an opportunity to finish the day in the top position. The Shubman Gill-led side has 8 wins and 16 points. Top-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) also have 16 points, but at a better NRR than GT.
With 7 wins and 14 points, Sunrisers Hyderabad sit in the third spot and are followed by Punjab Kings (PBKS). RCB are set to finish the week in the top position.
They are scheduled to face PBKS in the first game on Sunday (May 17). A win over the home team will see RCB become the first team to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2026.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) sit in the fifth spot and are followed by Chennai Super Kings. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are in the 9th and 10th spots, respectively. Both teams have crashed out of IPL 2026.
Finn Allen steers KKR to a win
Finn Allen was the star performer for KKR and he smashed 93 off just 35 balls as the home team put on a big total of 247/2 on the board. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (82* off 44) and Cameron Green (52* off 28) also played important roles in KKR’s big total.
Despite half-centuries from Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan, GT never seemed to be in contention to chase down the big target. KKR pacer Matheesha Pathirana walked off the field after bowling only 8 balls in his spell.
