The inaugural APP Asia Penang Open unveiled its Pro Men’s Singles seedings on July 18, with Jack Foster leading a star-studded field for the tour-opening event in Penang, Malaysia, from July 22 to 26.
The tournament marks the opening event of the newly launched APP Asia Tour, which aims to expand the sport’s footprint across the continent as a parallel circuit to the PPA Tour Asia.
Vietnamese star Quang Duong enters the competition as the second seed, while Australia’s Matthew Kouznetsov has secured the third seed. The field also features Brian Tran, Easton Horricks, Mikar Fisher, Hiroki Matsuzaka and Conor Robertshawe, underscoring the depth of talent assembled for the season opener.
With top players representing different parts of the world, the Pro Men’s Singles competition is expected to deliver high-quality, fast-paced pickleball as contenders battle for the first APP Asia Tour title of the year.
The Penang Open also marks the beginning of a six-event APP Asia calendar designed to establish a strong competitive circuit across Asia. Following the Malaysian leg, the tour will move to the APP China Open in October before heading to the APP Bangkok Open later that month.
The circuit will then continue with the APP Taipei City Open in November, followed by the APP India Open, also scheduled for November. The inaugural APP Asia Tour will conclude with the Ho Chi Minh City Open in December.
As the first stop on the new regional tour, the Penang Open carries added significance, offering players an early opportunity to set the tone for the season while competing for the first championship of a circuit that is expected to play a key role in the growth of pickleball across Asia.
