Rohit Sharma Return Still A Mystery as MI Face SRH In Must-Win Clash

rohit sharma return still a mystery as mi face srh in must-win clash

Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial game of the IPL 2026 at the Wankhede Stadium. The absence of Rohit Sharma has hurt the team at the top. Rohit has been absent from MI’s playing XI in the last three games due to a hamstring injury. MI have tried Danish Malewar, but he has failed to fill Rohit’s shoes. Given MI’s poor run in the IPL 2026, where they find themselves at ninth position, with five defeats and two wins, every game is a must-win for the side. The fans are keenly waiting for the veteran to return, but his participation remains doubtful. Sources close to the development have revealed that a call on Rohit Sharma will be taken before the toss at Wankhede Stadium.

“Rohit has continued to progress, but any call on his involvement in Wednesday’s game will be taken at the toss,” an MI source told PTI leading up to the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

MI Reeling, But Capable Of A Comeback

MI is in trouble. They have been bizarre this season. The big guns haven’t fired, and it has left the team tottering at ninth in the table. Contributions from Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have been below par. Tilak Varma and Quinton de Kock have played well, but they have not been consistent. In a tournament where scores of 220 have been chased easily, MI have crossed the 200-run mark only twice in seven games. They’ve had scores of 162-6 Vs DC, 123-9 Vs RR and 104 against CSK, clearly not enough to win games.

Injuries have also hampered the campaign. Apart from Rohit, MI also missed the services of Mitchell Santner, and he is set to be ruled out of the tournament, with MI adding Keshav Maharaj to the squad. The mood in the camp is not great as it was evident from the last game when Akash Ambani left the game midway and even asked the fans to go home.

That being said, MI is a team that knows how to come back. On paper, there seem to be no issues in the team as they have a plethora of match winners. The day players fire in unison, MI becomes nearly unbeatable. At the moment, the team is short on confidence. Their 103-run defeat to CSK was the lowest point for the team. But they’ve had a six-day break in between, and it’d have given the team time to regroup and address the issues. The team can still make the playoffs if they can win most of the remaining seven games, and if the team is prepared mentally, there is no reason why they can’t make a comeback.

Meanwhile, SRH will be a tough team to beat for MI. The Pat Cummins-led side have played good cricket and won five out of the eight games. More so, they’ve posted 200+m scores in six out of the total games they’ve played so MI will be wary of the challenge SRH bring to the table.
