Shubman Gill took the internet by storm after Gujarat Titans (GT) thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (April 26) to end a two-match losing streak. The victory marked the first instance of the Titans beating the Super Kings away from home after losing on their previous two appearances at the iconic venue in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
After GT secured the victory, Gill shared a photo on Instagram from the team’s flight back home. The Indian ODI and Test captain posted a picture of himself with a yellow whistle in his hand alongside a few images from the match. ‘Nandre Chennai’ (Thank You Chennai), he captioned his post.

Talking about the match, Gill won the toss and chose to bowl first. The hosts lost three wickets in the powerplay as the Titans’ pacer wrecked havoc. Ruturaj Gaikwad held fort but made a slow start. He made a 49-ball half-century before finishing his innings with 74 runs in 60 balls. CSK posted a total of 158 on the board. In reply, Gill gave the 2022 champions a quick start with a 23-ball 33. Sai Sudharsan finished as the top-scorer with 87 runs in 46 balls.
This match marked Titans’ fourth win of the season. They now have eight points to their name after playing as many games in the tournament and stand in fifth place in the table.
After the game, Gill expressed satisfaction with the team’s display but was critical of the display in the last five overs with the ball.
“Really happy. To get a win like that here is always difficult in this part of India, so really happy with the win. Yeah, apart from the last four or five overs of fielding, I think it was a pretty good effort from us out there,” said Gill in the post-match presentation.
On his decision at the toss, Gill claimed he was not sure before making the call despite it proving to be the right one.
“Actually, I was a little bit confused whether to bowl first or bat first on this wicket. But I think we bowled pretty well in the powerplay, and powerplay has been one of the areas where consistently we have done well. And if I have to be really critical, finishing the innings has been a little bit of concern for us, and hopefully, in the upcoming matches, we improve on that,” said Gill.

GT will be next seen in action on Thursday (30th April) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when they host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The Titans will look for revenge after losing the reverse fixture in Bengaluru on Friday (April 24) by five wickets.
