India have had a UK tour to forget so far and they are yet to register a win. The Shreyas Iyer-led side was shockingly whitewashed by minnows, Ireland, in the two-match T20I series. Ireland snapped their losing streak against India by winning the first T20I. The home team won the second game to win whitewash the visitors. Following the Ireland series, England landed in England for five T20Is and three ODIs. The first T20I was washed out due to rain.

India have lost three back-to-back T20Is against England and have conceded the series 3-0. They will aim to avoid a whitewash on Saturday (July 11). Amid India’s forgettable performance, Aakash Chopra has picked India’s alternate playing XI. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra handed the captaincy to Suryakumar. He also selected Sanju Samson in his team.

Suryakumar was sacked from the T20I captaincy and dropped from the squad after he guided India to a title win in the 2026 World Cup. Samson was dropped after three games in the ongoing UK tour.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was selected as an opener. He hasn’t played a T20I since 2024. Jaiswal was rested early in 2025 and he hasn’t been brought back to the T20I team yet.

Aakash Chopra appoints Rajat Patidar vice-captain

Chopra handed Rajat Patidar his maiden T20I call-up and also appointed him the vice-captain. Rajat captained Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to back-to-back title wins in IPL 2025 and 2026. He hasn’t played T20I for India.

Chopra further selected Dhruv Jurel and Naman Dhir. Jurel is a regular in ODIs but he isn’t part of the white-ball squads now. Krunal Pandya and Anukul Roy are two all-rounders in his team.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead Chopra’s pace attack, which includes Mohammed Siraj. Siraj was initially named in the T20I squad for the England and Ireland series but he was rested. Yuzvendra Chahal is also part of Chopra’s team.

Aakash Chopra’s alternate India’s playing XI: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajat Patidar (Vice-captain), Dhuv Jurel, Naman Dhir, Krunal Pandya, Anukul Roy, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
