Cricket icons Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill were in attendance during the first semi-final of Wimbledon 2026 between Alexander Zverev and Arthur Fury. Sachin is a regular visitor to Wimbledon and he often enjoys the live action from the Royal Box. It was the first time that Gill saw a Wimbledon match live from the Royal Box. He also became the fourth captain to be invited by Wimbledon. Sachin, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the three other captains on this list. Kohli attended his first Wimbledon game in 2015. He was the Test team’s captain back then.
Rohit attended his maiden Wimbledon in 2024. He enjoyed the live action just two weeks after guiding India to a title win in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He announced his retirement after winning the title. Rohit hasn’t attended a Wimbledon game since 2024.
Zverev defeated Fury in the semi-final in straight sets to punch his ticket to the final. He will face the winner of the semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner in the final on Sunday (July 12).
Shubman Gill to return to action soon
Shubman Gill will soon return to action and lead the Men in Blue in the ODI series against England. The three ODIs are scheduled to take place on July 14, 16 and 19 in Birmingham, Cardiff and London, respectively.
India’s Test and ODI captain is not part of the T20I team. Gill was dropped from the T20I squad before the 2026 World Cup despite being the vice-captain. He missed the ICC event and hasn’t been able to make his T20I return yet. Shreyas Iyer replaced Suryakumar Yadav as India’s T20I captain. He will assist Gill in the ODI series.
India struggling in UK
India are struggling in the ongoing UK tour. The Men in Blue suffered a shocking 0-2 defeat against Ireland in June. They are trailing 0-3 in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England. India are yet to register a win under Iyer’s captaincy.
