MLP Mid-Season Tournament: Texas Ranchers Remain MLP’s Biggest Mystery

texas ranchers search for consistency in mlp 2026

Some teams are hard to read because they don’t give you much information. Texas Ranchers, however, are hard to read because of the complete opposite. Across the six events of the 2026 MLP season, right up to this week’s mid-season tournament in Grand Rapids, Texas Ranchers have given us a lot of information, and none of it quite blends.

Let’s start at the beginning. Event 1, 8 points, nothing too dramatic. But then a gap. Event 4, 15 points, and suddenly they look like a top half team. Event 5, 4 points, almost a total collapse right after their best result. Event 6, 15 points once again, right back to looking dangerous.

That’s four events and a genuine rollercoaster. There’s no gentle buildup or gradual decline here, just sharp swings that make it almost impossible to guess which version of this team will turn up next.

Sitting at 42 points with a 10.5 average, Texas Ranchers currently hold seventh place, comfortably in the league’s midfield. But a 10.5 average suggests a team that is rather unremarkable. The actual results below suggest a team capable of cracking the 15-point mark.

The teams around them in the standings mostly got there through steadier means. The Palm Beach Royals, just above them, have a much flatter record: 12, 10, 12, 10, nothing too bad, but not too good either. Below them, Dallas Flash has similar wild swings, but Texas has managed to avoid an outright zero, which counts for something.

What happens next most likely depends on which pattern Texas trusts more. The version of themselves that shows up big in the almost final moments, or the version that seems to lose the plot right after. If the 15-point performances are the real baseline and Event 5 was the outlier, they’re a legitimate threat to the top half of the table. If it is the other way around, they’ll keep hovering exactly where they are right now.

Either way, this is definitely a team worth watching closely over the next couple of events. Whatever answer they land on, it will most certainly swing the standings.
