Shreyas Iyer Creates IPL History
Shreyas iyer has created history after leading pbks to the playoffs in his debut season with the franchise. The 30-year-old is the first player in the IPL’s History to Lead Three Teams to the second round having previously captained delhi capitals (2019, 2020) as well as kolkata kolkata riders (2024).
Shreyas is one of just two captains in ipl history to lead multiple teams in playoffs after smith, who captained Rajasthan Royals (2015) and rain pune supergiant (2017). However, it is worth noting that smith did not lead rr in the entrected season and only took charge from shane watson in the latter half of the 8th eigh edition.
If Mumbai Indians (Mi) Qualify for the Playoffs, Hardik Pandya will become the third captain to reach the playoffs with two teams.
Overall, shreyas is the fifth player in ipl history to lead three different IPL teams after Smith (RR, Pune Warriors India, RPSG), Kumar Sangakkara (pbks, PBKS, Duncan Charisers Hyderabad), Mahela Jayawardene (Pbks, Kochi Tuskers, DC), and Ajinkya Rahane (RR, RPSG, KKR). Shreyas and sangakkara are the only two players to lead three teams on a full-time basis.
Shreyas has LED pbks for the first time in 11 years and only the third time in history. Yuvraj Singh (2008) and George Baiiley (2014) are the only other captains to lead the franchise to the final.
Shreyas not only has the chance to become the first-Eve pbks skipper to win the IPL but also become the first player to captain two teams to the title year.
Shreyas alredy holds the record of being the only captain in ipl history to win the IPL with two different teams.
The 2025 champions trophy-winner was not retained by kkr ahead of the 18th edition by getting the first ipl-winning captain to be released the year after winning the trophy. He was signed by pbks for Rs. 26.75 Crore in the Mega Auction in Jeddah Last Year, BComing The League’s Second-Most Expensive Player.
