Will Matheesha Pathirana Finally Return For KKR Vs DC? Coach Gives Massive Update

will matheesha pathirana finally return for kkr vs dc? coach gives massive update

Delhi Capitals (DC) are all set to take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 51st match of the IPL 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. KKR are coming into the game in a must-win situation, as they now need to win all their remaining 5 games to stay in contention for qualifying the playoffs. Matheesha Pathirana has missed all of their 9 games in the IPL, and fans will be hoping that he returns tonight in a big boost to the franchise. However fans might not receive the good news.

Speaking before the match, KKR mentor Dwayne Bravo confirmed that while Pathirana might be very close to playing the franchise does not want to rush him because of the nature of his injury. Hence, it is more or less confirmed that he will not play vs DC.

“He is very close to playing, but we do not want to rush him because of the nature of his injury. We all want to see him back, but timing is important. It is great to have someone of his quality around the group again,” he said.

‘Not Worried About Table’

KKR need to keep an eye on the table if they want to qualify for the playoffs. They are currently on 7 points, having won three back-to-back games. However, they need to win the match or to stay in contention. Bravo said that the team are not worried too much about the table.

“We are not worrying too much about the table. The message from the coaches is to treat every game like it’s our last and focus on winning our remaining matches, and let destiny take care of the rest. We had a poor start, but the last three games have shown improvement and given the group confidence. Results matter, but the process is the most important thing for us,” he said.

‘KKR Supported Varun In Tough Times’

Varun Chakaravarthy had a tough start to IPL 2026, but has come roaring back into form, with him winning two Player of the Match awards in the last three games. Dwayne Bravo reiterated that the team supported Varun even in his tough times.

“In sport, everything is very result-oriented and emotional. Varun is a world-class spinner and had just come from a hectic World Cup. Sometimes, a break at the right time is important. Nobody doubted his ability. When you’re that good, it’s only a matter of time before form returns. The group has supported him throughout,” Varun added.
