RCB’s ‘London-Based Overseas Player’? Virat Kohli’s Response Is Pure Gold

rcb's 'london-based overseas player'? Virat Kohli's response is pure gold

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are one of the big teams to look forward to in the IPL 2026, as they began their journey in the tournament with a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Virat Kohli returned to action in T20 cricket for the first time since last year. Kohli now stays in London, and after his last appearance on the field for India in the ODI series against New Zealand in January, went back there. Now, many social media users have joked that RCB is actually playing with five overseas players, taking shots at the fact that Kohli stays in London.

Comedian Danish Sait, who is famous for his personality Mr Nags, asked Vrat Kohli in a video posted on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru YouTube channel, whether RCB are playing with overseas players, which was a direct playful jibe at the star batter.

“I don’t know, why are you asking me? Ask the overseas players. I am not an overseas player. Am I an overseas player?”, Kohli said with a smile.

‘Monkey Off My Back’

Virat Kohli also said that winning the IPL in 2025 for the first time in 19 years made him realize the monkey was really off his back.

“I had heard of this statement or this saying for years, monkey off the back. That night I really felt what it means. Everything became light,” Kohli said.

“Victory is the accumulation of hard work, all the sacrifices you’ve made, to be committed to the sport. It all comes together as a form of assurance, a reward, to know that you haven’t wasted your time. A lot of people learn from losses, but a lot of people can get very disheartened as well. So when you win after a lot of hard work, it makes you feel a sense of justice to the work that you put in, and also gives you motivation to work harder,” he added.
