World no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz retained his position on top of ATP rankings for the 22nd consecutive week, but the Spaniard’s command on the summit is under serious threat heading into the clay-court swing, with rival Jannik Sinner poised to potentially reclaim the top spot.
Alcaraz, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, has led the rankings since October 2025 after overtaking Sinner. However, the dynamics could shift dramatically following the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters.

While Alcaraz currently holds a 1,190-point advantage, the margin is effectively much slimmer. As the defending champion in Monte Carlo, he is set to drop 1,000 points, reducing his buffer to just 190 points, while Sinner has no points to defend.
This scenario leaves Alcaraz in a vulnerable position, with little control over his fate. If Sinner progresses deeper into the tournament and outperforms him, the Italian will leapfrog back to No. 1, intensifying one of the most compelling rivalries in men’s tennis.
Behind the top two, the rankings reveal a significant gap. Alexander Zverev is placed at the third place, trailing Sinner by more than 7,000 points. Veterans and rising stars round out the top five, with Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti holding fourth and fifth positions respectively.

There was minimal movement within the top 10, with just one change recorded. Ben Shelton climbed to No. 8 after reaching the quarter-finals of the US Men’s Clay Court Championships, while fellow American Taylor Fritz slipped to No. 9.
As the clay season gathers momentum, the ATP Rankings remain finely poised. With Alcaraz defending crucial points and Sinner closing in, the coming week could mark a significant shift at the very top, adding further intrigue to an already evolving season.
