Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambhar’ song played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during their 43-run defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 5, which they feel was played to mock the CSK and fans. The CSK was also upset by the DJ’s comments during the game and has thus asked the BCCI to look into the matter.
For the unversed, the ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambhar, Chutney’ was composed by musician Gana Appu, and often gets a mention during the CSK-RCB match. It started when RCB posted a clip of wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma singing ‘Dosa, idly, sambar, chutney, chutney’. The video went viral, and RCB was brutally trolled by the CSK fans.
CSK management had then laid out clear instructions that no comments would be made against the opposition and their fans. Since then, the song has been frequently mentioned during RCB-CSK matches. While the memes are still common on social media during fan wars, CSK feels the song and some comments by the DJ were not in good taste.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan Reacts
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was clearly upset with the incident and told the Indian Express. “The DJs are usually around to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering it, we have written to the BCCI to have a look into it.
“After that incident, there hasn’t been any repeat of it. The DJ isn’t supposed to make any comment on the opposition players. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a lovely fanbase that cheers us in numbers,” Viswanathan said. Besides the song, the CSK also objected to the comments made by the DJ. “They are not there to undermine the rivals or insult them,” A CSK official added.
A top IPL official reacted to the CSK’s complaint and said that the IPL governing council are looking into the case. “We have received a complaint from CSK and are looking into it,” the official said.
