Former India captain MS Dhoni has once again been named the biggest individual income tax payer in the Bihar-Jharkhand region for the financial year 2025-26, confirming the cricket icon’s ongoing commercial importance even years after retiring from international cricket. Dr D. Sudhakar Rao, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Bihar and Jharkhand, confirmed that Dhoni continued to hold the top rank in the region’s individual taxpayer category. Officials verified that Dhoni continued to be the top individual taxpayer, even though the precise sum paid by the former captain of the Chennai Super Kings and India was not made public.
Dhoni’s long-standing ties to Ranchi and Jharkhand, where he is still regarded as one of the most renowned athletes, are further enhanced by this acknowledgement.
“The total collection from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year of 2025-26 was around Rs 20,000 crore, of which Rs 12,000 crore was collected only from Jharkhand,” Dr D Sudhakara Rao told the media.
Dr Rao also disclosed broader tax income numbers from the region, revealing that Jharkhand contributed roughly Rs 12,000 crore in revenue during the last financial year, while Bihar contributed around Rs 8,000 crore. Against the combined revenue target of Rs 20,000 crore, Jharkhand emerged as the stronger contributor, with officials attributing the achievement mostly to the state’s industrial and commercial infrastructure.
Dhoni yet to feature in IPL 2026
Even though Dhoni left international cricket years ago, people are still keeping a close eye on his career in the Indian Premier League. Although injury worries have limited his involvement this season, the legendary Chennai Super Kings player is still part of the team. As CSK advances through a pivotal stage of the competition, Dhoni’s fitness has been a key talking point. There is an ongoing debate over whether he will return to the starting lineup.
Dhoni may be getting closer to making a comeback, according to reports and remarks made by team members. But there have also been hints that the veteran would be reluctant to upset the team dynamic, especially if Chennai starts to gain momentum and stay in the running for the playoffs.
Despite making a few on-field appearances, Dhoni continues to have a huge impact on the team as a leader and a person whose presence still attracts a lot of attention.
Dhoni’s status as one of India’s most well-known and financially successful athletes seems to have remained constant, despite the uncertainty surrounding his cricketing future. The former captain of India continues to have an influence way beyond the boundary rope, whether through cricket, sponsorships, or commercial ventures.
