Indian shuttlers had a mixed day on the third-to-last day of action in the 2026 BWF Singapore Open on Friday (May 29) as there was joy on the doubles side of things with two Indian pairs finding their way into the semi-finals, while there was heartbreak as far as singles is concerned as no Indian player reached the semi-finals in either the men’s or women’s singles competition.
Former World No. 1 pair Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made the semi-finals by winning their quarter-final clash against Malaysian pair KANG Khai Xing and Aaron TAI in a match that lasted 1 hour and five minutes by a margin of 19-21, 21-17, 21-13. Satwik-Chirag will face South Korea’s SJ Seo and WH Kim in the semi-finals on Saturday (May 30).
As far as the mixed doubles are concerned, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila advanced to the last four. They won the fixture as the Malaysian duo of CHEN Tang Jie and TOH Ee Wei retired hurt. The Indian pair were trailing 16-18 in the first set at that moment. They will face Japan’s S. Hobara and Y. Shimogami tomorrow.
PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen Knocked Out
World No.1 An Se Young ended PV Sindhu’s campaign as the two-time Olympic medal winner out classed. The South Koreans won the match that lasted just 48 minutes in straight sets by a 21-17, 21-14 margin. This means no Indian reached the semi-final, as Malvika Bansod and Unnati Hooda were both knocked out in the first round.
India’s last men’s singles competitor was also knocked out as Lakshya Sen lost his quarter-final against Japan’s Koki Watanabe. He lost a closely fought first set 21-19 before forcing a decider with a 21-15 victory in the second set. However, Watanabe won the game by clinching the third set 21–15.
Earlier, Ayush Shetty as well as Srikanth Kidambi were knocked out in the first round, while HS Prannoy’s campaign ended in the Round of 16.
