England have announced their playing XI for the first T20I against England, to be played on Wednesday (July 1). Jofra Archer has not been included in the playing XI for the series opener. The England Cricket Board (ECB) has to manage his workload due to his injury issues and Archer will not play the first T20I. He isn’t expected to play all the T20Is. The right-arm pacer played two Tests in the three-match series against New Zealand. He was part of the playing XI in the third Test, which the home team lost.
Former captain Jos Buttler will open the innings with Phil Salt. Captain Harry Brook will bat in the middle order. Tom Banton is also part of the final XI along with Liam Dawson and Will Jacks.
All eyes will be on Sam Curran, who contributes in both departments of the game. Curran missed the completed IPL 2026 season due to an injury but he started playing T20 cricket in England even before the end of the league.

It was the third consecutive time India and England locked horns in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup. The co-hosts of the ICC event defeated New Zealand in the final to win the trophy for the third time.
In 2022, England handed a 10-wicket defeat to India to reach the final. They defeated Pakistan in the summit clash to win the trophy for the second time.
In 2024, in-form India defeated England in the semi-final. They would go on to defeat South Africa in the final to become two-time T20 World Cup Champions. India had won the inaugural edition of the ICC event in 2007.
