A Living Legend: Sanjiv Goenka Hails Rohit Sharma Greatness After MI Defeat LSG

a living legend: sanjiv goenka hails rohit sharma greatness after mi defeat lsg

Sanjiv Goenka was all praise for Rohit Sharma and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner hailed his greatness after Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated LSG in the 47th match of IPL 2026. Rohit, who made his return to the playing XI, played a match-winning knock and scored 84 off just 44 balls. Batting with a strike rate of 190.91, Rohit hit 7 sixes and 6 fours in his knock. “The warmth @ImRo45 carries shows up in every conversation I have with him. His humility is evident in every moment spent around him. That’s what makes him a champion and a living legend,” Goenka captioned the post.

Rohit has never played for LSG. He joined MI in the IPL 2011 mega-auction and has been playing for them since then. Rohit-led MI defeated Sanjiv Goenka-owned Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL 2017 final to win their third IPL title. MI are five-time IPL champions.

Meanwhile, LSG are still reeling in the last spot in the IPL 2026 points table. The Rishabh Pant-led side has managed 2 wins in 4 matches. LSG have 4 points at an NRR of -1.076.

LSG have to win their next four games by big margins to keep their playoffs hopes alive. With 3 wins and 6 points, LSG are ninth in the points table. They can get to a maximum of 14 points and aren’t guaranteed to make it to the playoffs.

Rishabh Pant on DC’s defeat

Speaking to Star Sports after the game, captain Rishabh Pant said that they should have scored 10-15 runs more following their quick start. LSG were 141/3 after 10 overs.

“Definitely, the way we started, I think we should have gotten more runs. But definitely some good signs. Can’t say that. Definitely the boys played freely, but in the end, I think they bowled well because they are used to these conditions, for sure. See, definitely, we were short 10-15 runs because it was a 220-230 wicket for sure,” Pant said.

LSG will face defending IPL Champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their next game on May 7. Mumbai Indians will take on RCB on May 10.
