Women will play cricket with red ball for the first time in Uttarakhand

Dehradun : Uttarakhand is going to add a new chapter in the history of cricket. Senior Challengers Multi -Day Women’s Cricket Trophy organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will start in Dehradun from Tuesday. For the first time in this tournament, women cricketers will play with red ball, who has been used only in male cricket. A total of four teams (A, B, C and D) will participate in this tournament. It is hosted by the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). At a press conference at a hotel on Haridwar Road, CAU Secretary Mahim Verma said that the A and B team matches will be held at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, while C and D will be played at the private cricket stadium in Purukul as against the team.

Under this tournament, each match will run for three days. The first phase will be played from 31 March to April 2 and the second phase from 6 April to 8 April. This is the first time women cricketers will get experience of playing with red ball in long format, in this prestigious trophy, Indian women’s cricket players will be seen playing Shaifali Verma, Harleen Deol, Jemima Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh. Apart from this, Raghavi Bisht, Prema Rawat and Nandini Kashyap of Uttarakhand will also be part of the tournament.

Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy also in April
Apart from this, competitions will also be organized in Dehradun for the Under-14 Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy. There will be trials on April 3, 4 and 5 for this trophy. A total of 6 teams from Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Vidarbha will participate in it.

Women players will get equal opportunity
Dr. Girish Goel, President of Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) said that BCCI is now giving equal opportunities to women and male players. Earlier, the cricket of the red ball was limited to male cricket only, but now women cricketers will also go through this new experience. Senior women’s team head coach Anagha Deshpande and Physio Meenakshi Negi will be there. This tournament will mark a new beginning in women’s cricket and will provide young cricketers an opportunity to enhance long format games.
